Sadie and books

Now that Mammers is getting on in her old age - instead of wanting me to read a book as fast as the Matchbox Cars guy talks - she actually lets me "read" them to her. She loves books and will sit on the floor for 20 minutes at a time reading to herself. It's so cute.

My mom instinct was right

Well, there's something I didn't expect Sadie to catch in the middle of the summer - croup.

She wasn't feeling so hot for a few days, then just started in with this terrible - barking cough late last night. Before I went to bed, and before her cough started, I woke up Erik to tell him to leave the car tomorrow so I could take her to the doctor. Low and behold, after lying awake for over an hour, she started hacking. Mom instinct goes a long way.

Milk maid

Sadie is impressing me every day. I can't get mad at her, although the term frustration is used quite a bit in my mommy vocabulary book.

First thing this morning after breakfast, I let her take her sippy cup full of milk into the living room. I never usually allow this because it sloshes and spills everywhere - but thanks to Sadie's new ability to drink from a "hard spout" spills aren't a worry any longer.

Instead, the new worry is apparently her amazing ability to open the sippy cup - all by herself! White milk all over the green area rug and, of course, all over her. Sticky goodness.

In other Sadie news she has learned two new words in a jiffy - "stop" and "hot." She also understands what these words mean, which comes in handy when cooking a pizza on the nights that I just can't bring myself to do more than press the preheat button.

Oh Mammers...You amaze me.

Lesson's from Sadie

I'd be lying if I said I didn't get anxious and very nervous with Sadie before her surgery this morning. I know, I know. She's been through worse - it was just a little surgery.

But for me, it brought back a lot of those bad feelings - and at the same time - stirred up some postive feelings for a change.

When the anestheisiologist came to talk to us before the surgery, I had NO idea that she would have a tube down her throat during the procedure. Which pretty much got me thinking to the last time she had one down her throat.

Her surgery went very well and I only got upset once -when another little toddler was screaming after his ordeal. I never worried Sadie would get hurt - just felt awful that she even had to go through something like this.

I have to say that I am VERY PROUD of my daughter. I know she's only been on this earth a mere 10 months, but in those 10 months she's shown me what a strong, independent and tough person she is (Yes - babies can be all those things if you ask me). She's stubborn, but not to a fault and is so determined to learn you'd be puffing your chest out in pride too if she were your kid.

There were so many obstacles in the beginning that she had to overcome. There was so much working against her, yet my little fighter trucked on through it and proved everyone wrong! She's hearing great, growing well and isn't behind on a darn thing!

She's my hero. Plain and simple.

Jon and Kate plus 8

So, I have one baby. One little, teeny - for the most part - agreeable little sweetheart.

I'm so damn exhausted from lack of sleep. It's not so much that Sadie keeps me up at night as much as it is that I can't fall back asleep once she wakes me.

Anywho - I was watching Jon and Kate plus 8 last night and they got this gift from a photographer friend of theirs - a picture of them with the sextuplets around I'd say 2-3 months old. The woman looked a wreck. She looked like someone had run her over 5 billions times with a truck. How the hell did they manage? (Note - the picture above is not said image)

Now I don't feel so bad after seeing that. And a little thankful for the sleep I do get.

Not as easy as I thought...

In order to spread awareness about Factor V Leiden - I'm currently asking girls from the yahoo group and my myspace group to send in photos of themselves while pregnant, with their babies, etc...

A few girls in the groups have asked if they can send pictures of the "not-so-happy" stuff. I have received so many stories and pictures of babies that were stillborn or died due to complicatiosn related to FVL.

It's so hard to look at these pictures. I can't help but break down into tears after reading their stories, feeling their grief. But, I guess that's the reason why I have to do this. So people "get it" -Realize what we fear is real.

We were beyond lucky with Sadie. So much so that I feel a wierd, awkward guilt about it. I hope that this project is viewed by not only the people who HAVE this genetic defect - but the doctors, nurses and families of those afflicted by it. People need to know that more research is needed to treat pregnant women with FVL. Maybe, someday, no babies will be lost.
